VOIP Benefits

The Benefits of VOIP

The world is constantly changing and new technologies and advancements have made communication and transfer of information over large geographical distances possible. VOIP is a prime example.

VOIP stands for “Voice Over Internet Protocol”, or “voice over IP”. VoIP has been a boon for consumers; using voip is helpful making long distance calls and that too at much cheaper rate. VoIP uses speech data compression and carries telephone signals as digital audio. Calls made to similar VoIP connections are generally free whereas calls made to other users will have to be borne by the VoIP users. Through VoIP a user can make a call over the computer or a special phone, some even allow you to make the call on a traditional phone connected to an adapter.

Most PC to PC (or VOIP to VOIP) calls are free.

There are many reasons why people choose to use an Internet phone, or Internet telephony. Internet phones offer you mobility as opposed to using a tethered PC headset. With a broadband Internet connection, you can get free Internet phone calls no matter where you travel using a wifi IP Phone. For example, if your VOIP telephone carries a number based out of Texas, and you travel to Canada, any calls you get through your Internet phone services are treated like local calls. That is a huge plus for business travelers and others who travel a great deal. VOIP is also good to use as a home phone if you call long distance frequently. You will never again pay huge roaming fees on your cell phone again.

VOIP services such as Skype and Gizmo are free within the system and very low costs to non-Skype/Gizmo users.

The popularity of both has risen and many IP Phones have been released in the marketplace which are compatible.

Most VOIP Service providers offer many options with your hosted VOIP price such as three way calling, call waiting, caller ID and call forwarding. This is not always available through traditional cell phones.

Traveling a lot may result in high rates on roaming and receiving calls on a regular cell phone, but on a VOIP phone it will be less expensive and easier to connect. A perfect choice for businesses and firms that have people traveling a lot, people can be given these phones to make it cheaper for the firm. One also has the advantage of having an Internet connection with the plus point of a phone that carries voice and data at almost minimal costs. Another benefit is that with the growing number of Internet connections it is possible to call a large number of people and talk to people over vast distances.

VOIP is easy to use and reliable. No matter where you are as long as you have an Internet connection you will have access to your phone and be able and receive calls. Another perk that has drawn many personal users to VOIP services is that many Internet phone services offer free phone numbers and even free Internet phone calls to new and even past customers. Furthermore, services that most traditional telecommunications companies charge extra for are included within the package or plan. These additional services include but are not limited to call forwarding, automatic redial, caller ID, call blocking, and 3-way calling are all usually available for a low rate VOIP package. Video conferencing and instant messaging and file transfer are also allowed on these services

Many ‘traditional’ telecommunications companies have begun offering VOIP services as a means to retain customers.

Att (callvantage), Comcast, Tmobile and Time Warner all have VOIP offerings at fractions of the price of full telecom service.

Vonage and other dedicated VOIP consumer Service providers exist (phonepower.com, viatalk.com, etc) also compete for the consumer dollar at a lower price.

Business Class VOIP service is available from many of the large providers as well. In fact businesses have many options and can often replace entire (and antiquated) PBX systems with VOIP solutions.
